The Chai Cart has its roots in the vibrant street food culture of San Francisco. We have a simple mission: to give you the same wholesome goodness of chai enjoyed across India every day — with a creative twist. We believe using high-quality ingredients result in the finest products when made with passion and care.

In addition to the traditional Masala Chai, our most popular brew, The Chai Cart also creates unique flavors such as Mint, Green Chili, and Rose Chai.

We are a strong proponent of green practices. We use organic & fair trade tea, and compost after use. Our tin containers can be reused as gift/jewelry boxes or spice containers. We will reuse our bottles and containers, if returned to us.

Our Story

A perfect cup of Chai is bold, smooth and well balanced - with no single spice over-powering the taste of the chai itself. I really enjoy the art of bringing together various different herbs and spices and delicately balancing their flavours to create a perfect cup of chai every time.

Growing up in India, chai was a part of my everyday life. When I moved to the US, finding a good cup of chai, away from home, became a challenge. While Starbucks and other cafés served up chai latte, it never came close to the chai I was used to. So when the street-food scene started booming in the Mission District of San Francisco, I set up a “Chai Cart” to share real, homemade chai.

The key to a full-bodied, bold chai is the tea itself. After a long search, I finally found an organic and fair-trade full-leaf Assam “CTC” tea, which is the most common grade of tea leaves used in India to make chai. The chai I sold at The Chai Cart was so well received, I decided to make my own brews and loose tea blends. Unlike other chai concentrates available at cafés or retail stores, The Chai Cart brew is unsweetened, 100% natural with no preservatives and comes in various flavors such as Masala, Mint and Green Chili.
